HOW PLAYERS ARE ASSIGNED TO TEAMS

Updated Friday May 25, 2018 by Plainfield Junior Cats.

ASSESSMENT

Players go through a conditioning and evaluation period (PJC BOOT CAMP) at the beginning of the season.  During this time, the Head Coaches and Commissioners are tasked with evaluating and assessing players and assigning them with a rating from 1-5.

SELECTION AND ASSIGNMENT

Players selected for travel are assigned to the travel teams based on age.

All other players are then drafted to our In-House football teams.  The Director of In-House Football compiles the evaluations from Boot Camp for the draft.

PJC conducts a fair draft based on skill sets, in order to assign players to individual teams.

Each head coach will draw numbers from a hat to determine their drafting order.  Each round players from one skill level will be chosen by each head coach:

  • Round 1: Players rated as a 5 during Boot Camp are available to be drafted
  • Round 2: Players rated as a 4 during Boot Camp are available to be drafted
  • Round 3: Players rated as a 3 during Boot Camp are available to be drafted.
  • Round 4: Players rated as a 2 during Boot Camp are available to be drafted
  • Round 5: Players rated as a 1 during Boot Camp are available to be drafted
  • Rounds 6 and beyond will begin again with players rated at a 5, and so on.

Head coaches with a child playing on their team that is rated a 5 during Boot Camp will automatically draft that child during round 1.  Siblings on the same team will count as 2 draft choices.
